Recorded March 17, 2017
This week we make a desperate correction in hopes that Disney won’t sue us.
Monopoly is introducing three new pieces, find out which ones Kevin and Benedict would choose.
Since we recorded on St. Patrick’s Day, we took a look at President Trump’s favorite Nigerian proverb.
Kevin’s Sermon this week is about his favorite news anchor, Fox’s Shepard Smith.
“I have a confession to make. My own dirty secret that I can’t hide from all of you any longer. I watch Fox news. I watch it all the time, it’s an addiction.
I usually try to catch Hannity every night, because I just love clowns, O’Reilly because I want to know what my parents are being told to believe, and usually the first five minutes of the five or until I start screaming.
But there is one program on Fox that I don’t watch ironically or just to know what lies are being told. Shepard Smith Reporting. I understand if most of our listeners don’t know who Shepard Smith is, I don’t expect most of you to watch Fox news on a regular basis like me, I do it so you don’t have to. But I encourage all of you to watch Shepard Smith.
Shep is one of the last true news anchors. He is honest to a fault, and exactly what you don’t expect from Fox. He tries his very best to keep from editorializing the news, and he’s one of the few that will openly admit that Fox exists to get conservatives elected.
It’s strange enough to have an honest news reporter on Fox, but he actually goes out of the way to call out bullshit, even from his own network. I’ll give you a few examples of what an amazing guy Shepard Smith is.
In 2009 amid the torture debates, when Fox’s big names like Hannity and O’Reilly were endorsing torture, Shep lost it on one of Fox’s shows, screaming “We are America! I don’t give a rat’s ass if it helps! We Are America! We do not fucking torture! We don’t do it!”
He actually dared to say on air, “Climate change, it is real, the science is true”. That’s a direct quote!
I can imagine it might seem very strange to hear me applaud someone who simply states the truth, but it is that he states the truth on Fox that is amazing. One of the most astounding moments from Shep came after Trump’s big press conference a few weeks ago, when he called the President out on his lies. He said, concerning the Russian interference issue:
“That you call us fake news and put us down like children for asking this question is inconsequential the people deserve that answer at very least,”
I doubt that many Fox News viewers even know they are watching an openly gay man give them the truth, but I have to hope that now Roger Ailes is gone, Shepard will have a much larger role at the network. Fox news’ viewers only trust their one source, so to change them you have to change Fox.
There are many who haven’t taken kindly to Shep, especially now that he’s made it his job to call out their golden calf president as much as possible, just google fire Shepard Smith and you’ll see hundreds of results from right wing nutjob sites spewing hatred over his sexual orientation or what I consider to be actual fair and balanced reporting.
But it’s really no surprise that many on twitter and conservative sites have called for Fox to fire Shep. They can’t handle the truth.”
