Being my age, and an average bro, I’ve played a lot of video games in my time. Ever since I was a kid I always had some kind of video game console, I think most people my age have some sort of preoccupation with them, or maybe we really do all have ADD and need something to keep us occupied all the time. Video games have really come an incredibly long way, to the point where now, many of them are incredibly intricate, complex and realistic.
And in a lot of video games there’s a moment near the beginning where you have to make a decision, it’s sort of the, you can’t go back after this moment. It’s something like picking what type of character you’ll have, or deciding what side you want to be on. There’s been plenty of times that halfway through a game I regretted some decision I made early on. I realized just the other day that these types of moments occur in real life as well, but we don’t really notice them. They can be the type of thing like moving to a new city, or breaking up with someone, things which can sort of be reversed, but will inevitably affect the course of your life.
Well right now the United States is on the verge of one of these you can’t go back moments. The Senate Republicans are on the verge of passing a truly horrific and destructive healthcare bill, a bill that will effect almost every single American, and also one that they have done their best to keep as secret as possible. Every single thing they accused Obamacare of being, this bill literally is. It will cost millions their care, premiums will go up, coverage will go down, people with pre-existing conditions will no longer be protected. It is a pile of burning trash that they are trying to convince us is a shining diamond. It is them trying to sell us a mule a mustang.
The question we have to ask is did we already pass the point where we cannot go back. Did we make the wrong choice in the election, or is there still an upcoming point where we get to pick a new decision. I would say to all of you that we have not passed the decision point. We still have a chance to get back on track. Every single one of us needs to call our elected representatives, even if they are Democrats. We need to let every one of them know that if they don’t do everything they can to stop this terrible bill there will be consequences in the 2018 elections.
We have to do everything to protect the healthcare of the most vulnerable, because Donald Trump has proven that he does not care about anyone but his group of far right trolls, and himself. We have to stay together because it is dangerous to go alone. We all make choices in life, but in the end our choices make us. Even in dark times, we cannot relinquish the things that make us human. But keep fighting, because no matter how dark the night, morning always comes, and our journey begins anew. And if you were wondering, yes those were all video game quotes.
